The new SmartServo RC-1 from Toki Corporation weighs only 0.8g yet produces 15g/cm torque. RC-1 works just like a normal servo and has the usual three wire interface to connect into your receiver. It can be used with any normal R/C receiver and is an ideal companion for our Plantraco Servo Receiver, Micro Invent MINOR and Spektrum AR6300. The RC-1 is supplied with bare wires to save weight - you can solder directly onto the Plantraco, Micro Invent or Spektrum receiver output connectors. Alternatively, we can fit a JST (for Plantraco and Spektrum AR6300) or Micro Invent connector for you.
RC-1 is suitable for models weighing up to 50g - ideal for full three-axis control of your micro aerobatic or 3D model.

The RC-1 uses a BioMetal Fibre (BMF, aka muscle wire) to move the control arm. The BMF provides both motive force and feeback for accurate positioning. The lack of motor, voice coil, gears and feedback sensors enables realisation of the micro size and super light weight of the RC-1.
When the RC-1 is powered-on, the horn moves left and right automatically. This is an initialisation routine which prepares the BMF and calibrates the feedback circuit. The RC-1 consumes current all the time, even when stationary. The current consumption is minimum at the neutral position and increases toward the extremes of travel.
If repeated left and right motions are executed in quick sucession, the motion becomes slower. This is a characteristic of BMF. The normal rotational speed will recover within half a second after the rotation is stopped or slowed down. Also, as the BMF operation depends on heating and cooling of the wire, the RC-1 is heat sensitive. Do not mount the servo on top of a flight battery.
Although the RC-1 design incorporates shock absorption elements, the output arm should never be stopped by hand as the BMF could be damaged. Make sure that the control surfaces are free and the control rods do not bind against the control horns.
