The HK Series motors are high Kv versions of the popular 22mm Scorpion Outrunner Motors. The V2 motors include an integral cooling fan. They are designed for applications requiring a fast motor such as Helicopters, Ducted Fans and Hi-Speed Direct Drive applications such as Mini Hotliners and Zagi type flying wings. Lucien at Innov8tive Designs has written a Helicopter Motor Application Guide.
All HK-22mm motors have 9 pole stators and 6 magnet poles using the same 200°C N50 magnets and 180°C magnet wire as all other Scorpion motors. Suitable pinions for helicopter use can be found here.
HK 22mm motors come with 3.5mm male Bullet style connectors already attached, and include a hardware package that contains 3 matching female bullet connectors for your speed controller. Since the HK Series motors are primarily designed for helicopter and ducted fan use, they do not include a prop adapter or cross style backplate mount. If you intend running a prop on an HK 22mm motor, you will need to purchase a prop adapter for a 3.175mm shaft (1/8 inch). Read more about Scorpion Motors and Scorpion ESC. Spare shafts, and motor mounts are available. Keep your bearings in top condition with the Scorpion motor lubrication kit.
Scorpion Motors are built to last, and are backed with a 2-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. However, due to the high RPM of these motors, and that the installation and setup is outside Scorpion's control, the bearings are not covered by the 2-year warranty, nor is any subsequent damage caused to the motor by a bearing failure. Bearings are a normal wear item, and as such, need to be maintained and changed periodically. For maximum life, make sure that a sufficient gap is left between the pinion and main gear during motor installation to avoid binding, and put a small drop of oil on each bearing every 5-6 flights. It is the responsibility of the pilot to ensure that the bearings are maintained properly.
Scorpion have commissioned Louis Fourdan to create a special version of his motor calculator. This is an awesome tool which allows you to play around with various power and prop configurations on different motors to see how they will perform. You may download the latest version from here.
