Flight Line PlansTM : Flying Wings
Print version
Flight Line Plans are a well-respected producer of electric R/C and free flight aeroplane plans. Designs are available in several categories: Micro Models, SmartDarts, Flying Wings, Sports Aerobatic, Vintage and Trainers. Flight Line Plans also provide kit packs for some of the micron designs - these comprise materials, additional drawings and a cutting template. Some designs are available as complete kits.
Paul Cook appears to have a thing for flying wings. All of them fly well and are a lot of fun! Current plans include: Frazzle | Weezzle | Snazzle | Twiglet | Hot Tonic | Topic | MeltDown | TooDoo | Twinky
Frazzle is a 16.5" (419mm) span flying wing designed for exhilarating performance in a very conveniently sized package. This is the first of a linked series of variants to be released in the Flight Line Plans range.
The model is powered by the diminutive and powerful C18-15-17 Baby Brushless motor driving a 4.5" prop supplied from a 2 cell 300 mAh Lipo battery. Radio can be one of the micro receivers such as Corona RS410II, along with a pair of micro servos operating the elevons and an ESC rated up to 10A. Flight times are in the 10 minutes range and the all up weight is only around 83 grams. Construction is entirely in balsa and covered with SoLite. We recommend that a distinctive colouring scheme be employed to aid visibility
It is remarkable how well this flying wing goes on around 50 watts of power and, despite its proportions, it flies in a very spirited aerobatic fashion. Vertical rolling climbs are particularly impressive. Watch the video and prepare to be impressed!
A set of CNC cut wing ribs to speed your build is available via the 'Options' tab.

Weezle is a miniscule 12" (309mm) span flying wing with sparkling performance. This is the fourth model in a linked series of variants, the others are Frazzle, Snazzle and Dazzle.
The model is powered by the Hextronic 5 gram brushless motor driving a 3" prop supplied from a 200mAh 2 cell LiPo battery. The radio is ideally the Spektrum AR6300 receiver and a pair of Toki SmartServos operating the elevons and a 6A ESC. Flight times are in the 15 minutes range and all up weight is around 43 grams. Construction is entirely in balsa and covered with Solarfilm So-Lite.

Snazzle is a 21" (531mm) span flying wing with exhilarating hillside performance in a very conveniently sized package. Snazzle is the second model in a set of linked variations on a common theme - see Frazzle. We've dubbed it as a 'Microlight slope soarer' and it comes into it's own when Zagis stop flying.
Snazzle breaks with tradition - it is the first Flight Line PlansTM unpowered design to be released. It seems odd to list the Flight times but we conservatively state this as several hours just as a guide. In fact it has been calculated that the transmitter battery would be expected to run flat before the flight pack.
Radio can be one of the micro receivers such as the Corona RS410II, along with a pair of micro servos operating the elevons. Alternatively, you may wish to use the Spektrum AR6300 2g 2.4GHz receiver.
Construction is entirely in balsa and covered with SoLite for an all up weight of only around 76 grams. We recommend that a distinctive colouring scheme be employed to aid visibility. The picture illustrates a completed Snazzle showing the light, built up construction, which has proved to be robust and durable.
As with other Flight Line PlansTM models, it's remarkable how well this very light weight soarer flies not only in calm condition but also in winds up to 15 mph with its accurate and nimble performance.
A number of options for Snazzle may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan. So-Lite is ideal for covering.
The ever popular Twiglet is now even better! The plan now features three motor options and has been brought up to Flight Lines high drawing standard. This 24", 5oz flat plate flying wing is suitable for small field flying thanks to its low wing loading. Whether you power this model with a GWS IPS or a CDROM motor this model will perform loops and rolls with ease.
Twiglet features a removable canopy that allows easy access to the battery making charging a breeze.
The model is built from balsa wood and its flat plate wing is made from 1/8x1/4" strips. This means there are no fiddly ribs to cut out and sand which results in rapid construction.
A number of options for Twiglet may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan.
Hot Tonic is a 18" delta based on the popular Twiglet. This delta has to be one of Flight Lines fastest models so far. Powered by a hot wind CDROM motor and and three lipolys, this model has a power loading of 195W/lb. This means ballistic in any direction! Its delta wing allows for a good speed envelope and gives good stability and high angles of attack for slow controlled landings.
Features a one piece easy to build flat plate wing, and a balsa fuselage with removable canopy for battery access.
A number of options for Hot Tonic may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan.
Topic is a 20" 6oz flying wing capable of fast aerobatics. An ideal model to keep in the car for any flying opportunity. Suitable for flat field flying or slope soaring.
A built up balsa wing allows all radio gear to hide inside making for a very low drag airframe, a few evenings work should see the structure built. Use GWS EDP50 motor and two li-polys for good aerobatic performance and half hour flights. Or, for crazy speeds and vertical performance try the Blue Arrow 1230-4200 brushless motor and three li-polys.
Topic can also be used with a ducted fan: the GWS EDP40 with a Feigao 5866Kv motor gives sparkling performance.
A number of options for Topic may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan.
MeltDown combines the best from Twinky and Topic plus some new features to result in a 18" 5.5oz swept flying wing. This is a great model for the thrill seeker. When using the Feigao 1230-4100 brushless motor this wing is blisteringly fast and will sustain flight for 14 minutes with the recommended 3 series 700mAh li-poly pack. This model features a removable nose for quick and easy battery changing.
A number of options for MeltDown may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan.
TooDoo is a 32" 18oz aerobatic flying wing. Extreme performance when using a 200W brushless motor (TowerPro 2409/12 or AXI 2808/20), or simply good fun with a geared 300 motor and eight NiMH cells.
The model features a pod and boom fuselage and balsa wood built up wing. Impress your friends with virtually unlimited diameter loops and great four point rolls. TooDoo is a very nice model to fly and a change from the normal model aircraft.
Twinky is a 14" 1.1oz (355mm 32g) depron flying wing. Great fun to fly indoors or out where loops, rolls, bunts and tight turns are all part of the action. Its low wing loading and ability to cope with a stiff breeze makes Twinky a true back yard flyer.
Twinky uses the Falcon Models Breeze unit for control with a cheap GWS motor for power. Twinky is a very resilient model and has provided hours of fun, giving up to 17 minute flights with 250mAh li-polys. Every flight is a Twinky adventure!
Materials Needed to Complete: The following materials are required to build Twinky from the plan.
