Flight Line PlansTM : Micro Models
Flight Line Plans are a well-respected producer of electric R/C and free flight aeroplane plans. Designs are available in several categories: Micro Models, SmartDarts, Flying Wings, Sports Aerobatic, Vintage and Trainers. Flight Line Plans also intend to make some of their designs available as part or complete kits: the first of the full kits is RoundOne; the partial kits and kit packs are listed here.
These micro models are intended for indoor flying or outside flight in sensible conditions. Construction is mostly from thin depron with colouring applied using thinned acrylic paint or poster pens. Current plans include: AT10 | PT11 | SmartDart xxs | WattOne | WattTwo | Twinky | Wunwuno
The AT10 is a 10" (250mm) span micro RC trainer. AT10 is short for 'Actuator Trainer 10" span' and if you have never tried using actuators before or micro flying then this design is an ideal introduction to micro flight.
AT10 is simple to construct and set-up. It is powered by a 7mm motor supplied from a single LiPo cell. You can choose either the Micro Invent or Plantraco radio gear driving rudder and elevator actuators - although the plan is drawn with the excellent Micro Invent Minor receiver and MCA1 actuators, using the Plantraco 0.9g receiver and micro actuators is just as easy. Flight times are in the 13 - 17 minute range and the all up weight is only 14g.
It is remarkable how well this model flies on just a couple of watts of power and will loop and stall turn easily. The picture on the left illustrates the diminutive size against a standard Futaba transmitter.

The kit pack option includes all depron, balsa wood, carbon fibre, wire and sundry materials along with additional drawing(s) and a cutting template. All you need to add is glue (e.g. Deluxe Materials Roket Odourless and UHU-Por).
Zig Posterman pens are ideal for decorating this depron model.

The Micro Invent Minor receiver is on 35MHz and requries a micro crystal to match your transmitter. The Plantraco receiver is on 868MHz and requires either the matching transmitter or the Monolith which is a buddy box connected module for Futaba and Hitec transmitters.

The PT11, a 11" (280mm) span micro RC trainer, joins the increasing number of micro models in the Flight Line Plans range. PT11 is short for 'Parasol Trainer 11" span' and is fitted with lightweight undercarriage to allow circuits and bumps.
The model is powered by a 6 mm diameter geared pager motor driving a 100x80 mm prop supplied from a single 90mAh or 130mAh Lipo cell. Radio is the brilliant Micro Invent Minor receiver operating rudder and elevator actuators and with built in speed control. Flight times are in the 10 minutes plus range and the all up weight is only 16 or so grams. Construction is from depron and balsa with colouring applied using thinned acrylic craft paint or poster pens.
As with other Flight Line PlansTM micro RC models, it's remarkable how well this model goes on just 1 watt of power and despite its proportions it flies in a very sedate fashion.

SmartDart xxs is the latest version of Paul Cook's SmartDart presented as a 10" (250mm) span micro model. This is the fourth Dart in the series with xxs referring the extra, extra small size. Available as plan or kit.
The model is powered by a 7mm diameter pager motor driving a 2.25" prop supplied from a single 130mAh LiPo cell. Radio is the brilliant Micro Invent Minor receiver driving rudder and elevator actuators with built in 2A speed control. Flight times are in the 13 - 17 minutes range and the all up weight is only 17 grams.

WattOne is a brilliant micro flying machine just like a scaled down normal-sized aerobatic model. The picture illustrates the size against some grapes and, despite its diminutive proportions, it flies just like a larger pattern plane, managing rolls and loops.
This 10" wingspan model is powered by a 7mm pager motor driving a 2.25" prop supplied from a single 130mAh LiPo cell. Flight times are in the 13-17 minute range and the all up weight is approximately 15 grams.

WattTwo is, naturally, a twin-engined version of WattOne. This 10.8" (275mm) span aerobatic model has been extensively test flown outdoors in light wind conditions and indoors. The picture illustrates the size against a pair of English strawberries and both are a true delight!

Radio is the brilliant Micro Invent Minor receiver, operating aileron and elevator actuators and with built in speed control powering both motors in parallel. Flight times are around 9 minutes and the all up weight is only 19 or so grams. Construction is mostly from thin depron with colouring applied using thinned acrylic craft paint or poster pens.
It's remarkable what the doubling of thrust offers and with about 2 to 3 watts of power loops, rolls, wingovers and inverted flight are all readily possible.

Twinky is a 14" 1.1oz (355mm 32g) depron flying wing. Great fun to fly indoors or out where loops, rolls, bunts and tight turns are all part of the action. Its low wing loading and ability to cope with a stiff breeze makes Twinky a true back yard flyer.
Twinky uses the Falcon Models Breeze unit for control with a cheap GWS motor for power. Twinky is a very resilient model and has provided hours of fun, giving up to 17 minute flights with 250mAh li-polys. Every flight is a Twinky adventure!

Wunwuno is a 9.7" span 'Cartoon scale yesteryear jet' reminiscent of the evocative early '50s DE HAVILLAND DH-110.
The model is powered by a 7 mm diameter pager motor driving a 2.25. prop, pusher style, supplied from a single 130 mAh Lipo cell. Radio is the brilliant Micro Invent Minor receiver operating aileron and elevator actuators and with built in speed control. Flight times are in the 13 - 17 minutes range and the all up weight is only 15 or so grams. Construction is mostly from depron with colouring applied using thinned acrylic craft paint or poster pens with modest insignia additions to complete.
As with the other Flight Line PlansTM micro RC models it's remarkable how well this pusher goes on just 1 to 2 watts of power and despite its proportions it flies in a very spirited fashion managing rolls and loops, inverted flight and swooping passes.
