Flight Line Plans are a well-respected producer of electric R/C and free flight aeroplane plans. Designs are available in several categories: Micro Models, SmartDarts, Flying Wings, Sports Aerobatic, Vintage and Trainers. Flight Line Plans also provide kit packs for some of the micron designs - these comprise materials, additional drawings and a cutting template. Some designs are available as complete kits.
The SmartDart models are all based on the BMFA Dart - a simple rubber powered model which has been sold in the millions.
'SkyDart' is the latest iteration of the popular SmartDart models. It is a trainer designed to teach the basics of model construction and would be ideal as a first R/C model. The impetus for SkyDart was the need for a model suitable for use in a school project on flight.
The SkyDart airframe is a balsa open frame construction with Depron skinning. This combines lightness with excellent strength - exactly the qualities you need in a beginners model.
The video tab contains an animation of the SkyDart build sequence. It was created from the CAD files used to generate the SkyDart plan.

'SmartDart', the very first SmartDart of the series. At 27", 7oz and 100W of power, this model will out perform many others. Its large wing area and dihedral make this model incredibly docile. However, crank up the movements and you'll be looping, rolling, prop-hanging and even tail sliding!
This is a brilliantly simple model to build and fly. It has given great pleasure to all that have flown it. Plan details give options for AXI2208 (or Scorpion 2208) or PJS300 motors.

'SmartDart xs', the original 22" 4.4oz slow fly model with a kick! Ideal for the calmer day or indoor flight for gentle cruising. This model can be flown very slowly and is extremely manoeuvrable despite only being rudder and elevator control.
Use a CDROM motor for a power loading of 125W/lb and watch this model do very large slow loops, rolls and even prop-hang! This model will also suit GWS IPS motor/gearboxes; recommend the S2 or A gear ratios.

'SmartDart xs-f', as much fun as the original 22. 'xs' but now more robust for those indoor sessions. The SmartDart xs-f is constructed from 3mm depron foam with carbon strengthening. The SmartDart xs is now even quicker to build and more likely to bounce on those indoor mishaps.
This version is exactly what you need to learn to fly indoors; incredibly stable and slow flying yet able to loop roll and prop hang all with just rudder, elevator and throttle. The SmartDart family will provide hours of fun for pilots of all skill levels.

Styro spray paint or Zig Posterman pens are ideal for decorating this depron model.
SmartDart xxs is the latest version of Paul Cook's SmartDart presented as a 10" (250mm) span micro model. This is the fourth Dart in the series with xxs referring the extra, extra small size.
The model is powered by a 7mm diameter pager motor driving a 2.25" prop supplied from a single 150mAh LiPo cell. Radio is the brilliant Micro Invent Minor receiver driving rudder and elevator actuators with built in 2A speed control. Flight times are in the 13 - 17 minutes range and the all up weight is only 17 grams.
The SmartDart xxs plan is annotated with building instructions and control setup. An optional pack of all building materials is available - see the 'Options' tab.
Materials Needed to Complete: The following materials are required to build SmartDart xxs from the plan. and are included in the kit pack option.
Required Radio Equipment:
A number of options for SmartDart xxs may be purchased at discounted prices. Selecting an option will add its price to the total for the plan.
The kit pack option includes all depron, balsa wood, carbon fibre, wire and sundry materials along with additional drawing(s) and a cutting template. All you need to add is glue (e.g. Deluxe Materials Roket Odourless and UHU-Por).
Two alternative packages of airborne components have been selected for you:
The Micro Invent Minor receiver is on 35MHz and requires a micro crystal to match your transmitter. The Plantraco receiver is on 868MHz and requires either the matching transmitter or the Monolith which is a buddy box connected module for Futaba and Hitec transmitters. The Plantraco transmitter has a built-in charger for the Bahoma (magnetic connector) LiPo cells. If you are not using the Plantraco transmitter you will require a charger suitable for low capacity single LiPo cells, e.g the BiCha charger.
The SmartDart xxs plan shows the detail for installation of Micro Invent R/C components. However, substitution of Plantraco R/C is simple and well within the capability of someone with experience of building one or two models. As the battery is mounted directly onto the Plantraco receiver, its position will require adjustment (moving forward slightly) to maintain the C of G at the point marked on the plan.
