Flight Line PlansTM

Paul and Gordon Cook started Flight Line Plans in 2002 following considerable interest in Paul's first design Twiglet that featured in a friend's web magazine. Other designs soon followed and fellow club members and soon fliers from neighbouring clubs also wanted one of his plans. Before long, Paul's designs were mentioned on Q&EFI, RC Model World and the BEFA newsletter particularly through the SmartDart as interest in indoor flying grew. The Flight Line Plans philosophy is to offer a proven design and to specify the materials, equipment and the control settings actually used. Flight Line Plans' models have been demonstrated at Woodsprings E-Fly, Paul and Gordon return each year to meet old friends and new customers. The plan base has been steadily increasing now standing at almost 40 with many more in the pipeline.

Flight Line Plans are established as specialist producers of tested electric R/C and free flight aeroplane plans. Electric powered designs are offered in several categories: Micro, SmartDarts, Flying Wings, Sports Aerobatic, Vintage and Trainers so there is something for everyone. There are also several (kits) with more to follow. Several plans have optional partial kit packs comprising all building materials with additional drawings and cutting templates; these are listed here.

Micro Models

AT10 £5.05
The AT10 is a 10" (250mm) span micro RC trainer. AT10 is short for 'Actuator Trainer 10" span' and if you have never tried using actuators before or micro flying then this design is an ideal introduction to micro flight.

Burd Dawg £6.05
Burd Dawg is a lightweight cartoon scale version of the US Spotter plane from WWII suitable for the Vapor receiver module, Spektrum AR6400 or similar 3-function micro R/C to control rudder, elevator and motor speed.

Chirp vs £5.05
'Chirp vs' is an 'Old Timer' style indoor and garden micron model for the Spektrum AR6400 or similar 3 function R/C. It is based on the electric free-flight Chirp.

PT11 £5.05
The PT11, a 11" (280mm) span micro RC trainer, joins the increasing number of micro models in the Flight Line Plans range. PT11 is short for 'Parasol Trainer 11" span' and is fitted with lightweight undercarriage to allow circuits and bumps.

PT17 £6.05
PT17 is 17" (430mm) span up-scaled version of the original, smaller PT11 parasol wing design that offers a convenient and simple to build 3-function rudder-elevator-motor trainer for modern micro RC gear that is also easy to fly.

Smart Dart xxs £5.05
SmartDart xxs is the latest version of Paul Cook's SmartDart presented as a 10" (250mm) span micro model. This is the fourth Dart in the series with xxs referring the extra, extra small size.

WattNext £6.05
WattNext is a miniature aerobatic plane for the Spekrum AR6400 or Parkzone PKZ3351 receiver modules. WattNext has spectacular performance in either 3 or 4-function mode to control ailerons, elevator, (optionally) rudder and throttle via an external ESC, all from a single Lipo cell. The model would suit capable flyers either for outside use or indoors in a sports hall.

WattOne £5.05
WattOne is a brilliant micro flying machine just like a scaled down normal-sized aerobatic model. The picture illustrates the size against some grapes and, despite its diminutive proportions, it flies just like a larger pattern plane, managing rolls and loops.

WattTwo £5.05
WattTwo is, naturally, a twin-engined version of WattOne. This 10.8" (275mm) span aerobatic model has been extensively test flown outdoors in light wind conditions and indoors. The picture illustrates the size against a pair of English strawberries and both are a true delight!

Wunwuno £5.05
Wunwuno is a 9.7" span 'Cartoon scale yesteryear jet' reminiscent of the evocative early '50s DE HAVILLAND DH-110.

Smart Darts

SkyDart £6.05
'SkyDart' is the latest iteration of the popular SmartDart models. It is a trainer designed to teach the basics of model construction and would be ideal as a first R/C model. The impetus for SkyDart was the need for a model suitable for use in a school project on flight.

SkyDart Kit £27.60
The 'SkyDart' kit is the result of a collaboration between Flight Line Plans, Sky Hi Products and Micron. It is a trainer designed to teach the basics of model construction and would be ideal as a first R/C model. The impetus for SkyDart was the need for a model suitable for use in a school project on flight.

SkyDart vs £5.90
'SkyDart vs' utilises the Spektrum AR6400 or similar 3 function receiver module to control rudder, elevator and throttle of this latest iteration of the Dart models. SkyDart vs is a smooth flyer and would be suitable as a first R/C model.

Smart Dart £6.05
'SmartDart', the very first SmartDart of the series. At 27", 7oz and 100W of power, this model will out perform many others. Its large wing area and dihedral make this model incredibly docile. However, crank up the movements and you'll be looping, rolling, prop-hanging and even tail sliding!

Smart Dart xs £6.05
'SmartDart xs', the original 22" 4.4oz slow fly model with a kick! Ideal for the calmer day or indoor flight for gentle cruising. This model can be flown very slowly and is extremely manoeuvrable despite only being rudder and elevator control.

Smart Dart xs-f £6.05
'SmartDart xs-f', as much fun as the original 22. 'xs' but now more robust for those indoor sessions. The SmartDart xs-f is constructed from 3mm depron foam with carbon strengthening. The SmartDart xs is now even quicker to build and more likely to bounce on those indoor mishaps.

Flying Wings

Frazzle £6.05
Frazzle is a 16.5" (419mm) span flying wing designed for exhilarating performance in a very conveniently sized package. This is the first of a linked series of variants to be released in the Flight Line Plans range.

Hot Tonic £6.05
Hot Tonic is a 18" delta based on the popular Twiglet. This delta has to be one of Flight Lines fastest models so far. Powered by a hot wind CDROM motor and and three lipolys, this model has a power loading of 195W/lb. This means ballistic in any direction! Its delta wing allows for a good speed envelope and gives good stability and high angles of attack for slow controlled landings.

Melt Down £6.05
MeltDown combines the best from Twinky and Topic plus some new features to result in a 18" 5.5oz swept flying wing. This is a great model for the thrill seeker. When using the Feigao 1230-4100 brushless motor this wing is blisteringly fast and will sustain flight for 14 minutes with the recommended 3 series 700mAh li-poly pack. This model features a removable nose for quick and easy battery changing.

Snazzle £6.05
Snazzle is a 21" (531mm) span flying wing with exhilarating hillside performance in a very conveniently sized package. Snazzle is the second model in a set of linked variations on a common theme - see Frazzle. We've dubbed it as a 'Microlight slope soarer' and it comes into it's own when Zagis stop flying.

TooDoo £6.05
TooDoo is a 32" 18oz aerobatic flying wing. Extreme performance when using a 200W brushless motor (TowerPro 2409/12 or AXI 2808/20), or simply good fun with a geared 300 motor and eight NiMH cells.

Topic £6.05
Topic is a 20" 6oz flying wing capable of fast aerobatics. An ideal model to keep in the car for any flying opportunity. Suitable for flat field flying or slope soaring.

Twiglet £6.05
The ever popular Twiglet is now even better! The plan now features three motor options and has been brought up to Flight Lines high drawing standard. This 24", 5oz flat plate flying wing is suitable for small field flying thanks to its low wing loading. Whether you power this model with a GWS IPS or a CDROM motor this model will perform loops and rolls with ease.

Twinky £5.05
Twinky is a 14" 1.1oz (355mm 32g) depron flying wing. Great fun to fly indoors or out where loops, rolls, bunts and tight turns are all part of the action. Its low wing loading and ability to cope with a stiff breeze makes Twinky a true back yard flyer.

Weezzle £6.05
Weezle is a miniscule 12" (309mm) span flying wing with sparkling performance. This is the fourth model in a linked series of variants, the others are Frazzle, Snazzle and Dazzle.

Sports Aerobatic

Dazzle £6.05
Something unusual from the Flight Line Plans wizards. Dazzle is 19.5" (495mm) span aerobatic design with exciting performance and unconventional controls. Paul, the designer, wanted to be a little radical with this model and incorporated a taileron control system. If you haven't tried this concept before give it a try, you will certainly be surprised.

Ezee £6.05
Ezee is a 12" (309mm) aerobatic model with exciting performance. Ezee was designed to be Ezee to build and fly, small enough to fly in a park or from small field and designed to be stable yet responsive.

Focus £8.10
Focus is a 30" 15oz sport aerobatic model capable of most four channel aerobatics. Designed for a 2212 series brushless motor and three li-polys, this model pulls vertical with ease and it will knife-edge the length of your field.

Image £8.10
Image has its heritage from the smaller Focus plan and has proved to offer just as nimble performance. Several people have commented that is seems to have the look of a Wot 4. Whilst that was never the intention, Flight Line Plans are flattered that it could be considered in such fine company.

ME109 £6.05
The 'ME109 Park Fighter' is a 22" 5oz semi scale WW2 fighter. Capable of aileron and elevator aerobatics this model is guaranteed to get peoples attention. Great fun to chase your friends around the sky in pretend combat and looks the part too.

Pingwin £6.05
Inspired by the BBC hoax broadcast on 1 April 2008 which alluded to the flight capabilities of Antarctic penguins, Gordon and Paul of Flight Line Plans resolved to prove that this delightful creature can indeed fly and was worthy of a realistic representation to demonstrate to modellers and others around the globe. Everyone knows that Penguins can't fly... until now. As Baldrick said... 'We have a cunning plan'. The Pingwin plan was originally published in the April 2009 issue of Radio Control Model World and is available from Micron by kind permission of the editor.

RoundOne xl £6.05
RoundOne xl is a 140% scale-up of the popular micro RoundOne model. RoundOne xl retains the same excellent flying characteristics as its smaller sibling but allows you to use cheaper motors and radio gear.

Sprite £6.05
Sprite is a 22" 6oz precision pattern type aerobatic model. With a power loading of 200W/lb point this model in any direction and watch it go! All non 3D aerobatic manoeuvres are possible even large knife edge loops for those who dare. Sprite has proved to be a very popular model and its performance has convinced even the toughest IC flyers to have a go.

Tango £14.95
Tango is a 55" (1400mm) span full house sports plane capable of the classical aerobatic pattern manoeuvres. As with other Flight Line Plans' models you will find that Tango flies exceptionally well and is capable of all the standard pattern type loops, rolls, spins and knife-edge flight rather than 3D manoeuvres.

Vintage

Whisp £6.05
The Whisp design was inspired by the rubber powered Wakefield models from earlier years and brought up to date with a brushless motor and LiPo power. The construction is strong, yet light for the size and therefore offers the possibility of a fast rate of climb and extended duration flights from limited motor runs. If you haven't tried this method of building a fuselage previously, you'll find it both challenging and rewarding.

Trainer

PE100 £6.05
PE 100 is a real fun hack whether you want to fly it just as a sports model or as a trainer. It offers a docile performance with 3-function R/C using the Spektrum AR6400 or Parkzone PKZ3351 to control rudder, elevator and throttle via an external ESC, all from a single Lipo cell. The model would suit novice flyers either for outside use or indoors in a sports hall.

PE300 £6.05
Developed from the earlier PE 400 which used a Speed 400 motor, this version uses a 2 or 3 cell LiPo and a CDROM motor. With a lighter construction, the weight came out at half of the original and the climb and performance benefits followed. Power on/off flights of over 50 minutes are easily obtained with thermal flights of over an hour.

PE400 £6.05
PE400 is a 32" span 15oz speed 400 model. Using a six cell 1100mAh nicad pack gives up to 14 minutes of flight - a 1200mAh 2S LiPo will give even longer duration. Rudder and elevator control allows for loops, rolls and stall turns. Makes for an excellent trainer or first electric model.
